Okay, so here goes my first Tough Mudder blog post.
I wanted to share the most ass-kicking workout I've had in forever.
My lovely wife Yasmin got me a 1 hour training session with her trainer for my birthday a few weeks ago. We worked out at South Florida Boxing, so we had lots of exercise, training, and boxing equipment available to us.
We started out hitting the bag, jabs and crosses, then elbows and pushing the bag to keep it away as it swings back at you. Then we went over to the exercise equipment and started doing crunches (on one of those crunch machines), and he had me doing a dozen reps worth of jump-grab handles-pull up-crunch knees up-drop-squat-repeat type things that were awesome/killer.
After that we went straight back over to the bag and he tells me "jab+cross until I tell you to elbow, then elbows until I tell you to drop, then give me push ups until I tell you to jab/cross again".
At this point my watering mouth and wooziness pushed me to ask him for a brief bathroom break, which ended up with me puking 7 times in the garbage can on the way to the bathroom.
I went to the restroom, washed my face, and got back into the action.
He put me on a treadmill at a steep incline for a few minutes at 4-5 mph, then dropped the incline and the speed, and had me turn around and do a few minutes walking backwards.
Then he had me climp up and down about 30 stairs, and then he had me do the stairs again, but this time "running down the stairs like the cops were chasing me, and running up the stairs like pitbulls were chasing me".
All of that took place in about 1 hour, and I can honestly say it was the most kick-ass training session I've ever done. I appreciate that he wasn't pushing me too hard too early, and he often kept me right at the point of feeling like I was really giving it all I had, without breaking.
I've been playing volleyball for 3+ hours twice a week since then, but haven't really worked out much since. I plan to get back into the gym at work for some 30 minute runs 2x a week again now, but we'll see how Warrior Dash treats me in a month. Hopefully it'll give me a good gauge as to where my conditioning level is.

I love the puking part lol
DeleteThe trainer teaches a great Boxing class on Wednesdays at 7pm at South Forida Boxing, but I think it was just renamed to Fight Fit Club... or something like that. But it's off Taft and Flamingo, behind the ice skating rink. Your first class is free and so are the gloves rentals... Check the place out and they have weekend bootcamps almost every weekend for $15.
DeleteAnyway, I'm glad Frank pushed through it, even after the 7 times... LOL!!! I know the workouts are tough as hell. Proud of u bebes!
