Hello Team,
I wanted to update you all on my status with the ankle injury. I met with an orthopedic doc on Wednesday and luckily I did not break any bones. However, I did tear a substantial number of ligaments and am required to wear a restrictive boot for the next two weeks with limited weight-bearing. After the two week mark, I will likely need to do some light physical therapy which right now is estimated at two weeks.
So this basically means that I will be limited to some degree for the next 4 weeks. Consequently, I will not be able to push my workouts in a manner that parallels the effort of the Tough Mudder until, at best, the week before the event.
Even with the prospect of a speedy recovery, I think it would be silly of me to put myself through the Tough Mudder, potentially re-injuring my ankle on one of the obstacles (as there are many opportunities to do so). Even just running over the rough terrain could cause another injury. I don't think it's smart to participate without adequately training and coming off of a sensitive injury.
Anyway, I will be transferring my Tough Mudder registration to Miami, which will take place at the Homestead Speedway on March 2. This will give me about 3 months to get my ass back into shape and get the ankle healthy again. It's a $30 charge, at least, but I don't have much of a choice otherwise I lose the registration. Since I am the team organizer on toughmudder.com, I wrote them an email to make sure it doesn't affect the Tampa team if I transfer my registration. Once I hear back I will effectuate the transfer.
I am happy to still go and support you guys in December, but I will be doing so as a spectator.
Sorry if this disappoints, but it's not really something I can control.
