8 mile Trail Run @ Oleta Park

Hey guys... I wanted to share my Trail Run I completed this weekend, it was a total of 8 miles thought the run stated it was a 10K. I think it would be good idea to do at least one before Tough Mudder or Spartan (Alex & myself). The trail is no joke, I saw some people fall and I was one of them... LOL!! The terrain is uneven, you are running/jumping over tree logs and tree roots, bridges laced with a fence to give you traction, there are also some steep inclines and declines, and some muddy areas too. I believe it helped me prepare for an uneven ground, like I am sure I will see in the Warrior Dash and Spartan. I know that the mud runs aren't like the trails, but I believe I'll be better prepared. The trail run was held at Oleta Park in North Miami and they usually have one every month, it's between $25 to $35 depending on the distance. The running team I train with did several meets at the Vista View Park in Davie, it's nothing like Oleta, but it will at least better prepare you.

I have never done a run like this and I have to admit, it was one of the toughest runs, but I was surprised how much I enjoy it. When I reached the finish line, I felt like I crossed a new level in my fitness journey. If you guys are interested and want to give the Train Run a try, here is the link.

If you decide you DO want to give the Trail Run a try, I strongly suggest to get in a few laps around the Vista View Park mountain trail. Not only is a nice view, there are a lot other runners in the area. For me, it keeps me going to see others pushing themselves.

  2. Truly guys, it was a great run... It was hard on my glutes and knees especially, but I was surprised to the way my body reacted. You know what I mean?? Though the trail run and the obstacle runs are different, they have similiar elements. You use your entitre body, the course is constantly changining, you're at it for miles, and so forth. But yea, glad you guys think so.

So if you guys want, let's try to meet for a few laps at Vista View Park on a weekend morning? Denny, that's the place we ran at... And I must say, the mornings are my favorite time to run. How about you guys?? Anyway.. The running group I run with trained there and it proved to have been a benifit in the trail run I completed on Sunday. But until we can get together, try to find other high intensity cardio workouts to do throughout the week. Keep your heart beat going, but do something. I'll write another post with my workout regimen, it may or may not have something helpful for any of you...
